My hubby and I have a special love for Drumstick ice cream cones. These store bought cool treats consists of a chocolate-lined waffle cone with a chunk of chocolate at the bottom, filled with ice cream and topped with a hardened chocolate shell and nuts.
As a summer treat, my husband made a batch of homemade chocolate ice cream. Normally, this is a treat in itself. But he decided to take it up a notch and create his own chocolate-lined waffle cone using nothing more than chocolate chips, a double-boiler and our freezer.
Using a double-boiler, he melted down about 1/3 of a cup of chocolate chips. Using a small spatula, he then thickly lined the inside of store-bought waffle cones with the melted chocolate, allowing some of it to drip down into the bottom of the cone. Stand the cones up in coffee mugs or small glasses to make sure the chocolate slides down the sides to the bottom. He then popped them (glasses and all) into the freezer to set.
Although it was a random spark of inspiration, the experiment worked out in our favor and added something a bit extra to what was already a special treat.
While I still adore Drumsticks, I can’t resist my hubby’s homemade ice cream and chocoalte-covered cone creations.
